Critics of the paranormal say that there are no other dimensions or beings and that modern day practitioners are money hungry charlatans that fool innocent and gullible people into believing that they have special talents. Critics accuse practitioners of employing ordinary psychological techniques to fool their clients into believing that they are able to divine the future or communicate with other beings, often even with the dead.
Another main gripe of critics is that people follow the advice given to them by practitioners without using their own common sense. In this way they often make disastrous decisions and when they question the practitioner about the unexpected results they are simply told that they either misunderstood the reading or that they made mistakes when implementing the advice given. Clients meekly accept these lame excuses and even ask for further sessions.
The fact remains, however, that many paranormal practitioners have thriving practices. Some of them even enjoy a measure of stardom, consulting only the rich and famous. It is also a fact that law enforcement agencies routinely ask mediums to help them in locating missing persons or to pinpoint vital clues at crime scenes. These cases have been highly publicized and the successes of the practitioners can hardly be denied.
Loyal clients of paranormal practitioners say that critics do not know what they are talking about and that they criticize without the benefit of the full facts. No practitioner, say supporters, have ever claimed to ability to perform magic, to cast spells, to read minds or to foretell the future. Their special ability focus on the use of the energy fields all around them to communicate directly with beings from other universal dimensions.
Some practitioners say that they are simply the receiving end of communication channels from other dimensions. They say that they have no idea why they were chosen for this role, but that they feel compelled to relay messages received. Sceptics are reminded that even the Bible and the Koran, for example, tell of prophets and other individuals that were used by God to communicate with his people.
Those consulting paranormal practitioners must understand and accept the fact that they do so at their own risk. There is no overseeing official organization where disappointed clients can lodge complaints and there are no disciplinary procedures that can be instituted. The field of paranormal psychology is unregulated and anyone can legally advertise his or her services without needing a license or any other form of official registration.
As is the case in almost all fields, there are no doubt many fraudsters practising paranormal psychology. Clients need to be careful and consult only practitioners that enjoy a solid reputation. For numerous clients, they fulfil an important need and give them new confidence in life.
