Many parents are not as accepting, and they also need support. They need to talk about their own feelings and what their son or daughter is going through as well. They also need to be aware that this is not their fault and it is not an illness. Many parents don't want their kids to go through this because of how they will be treated. However, one must realize that this is the choice of the individual.
Some people end up never confronting their loved ones because they know either that they won't be accepted or that it will hurt them too much. In doing so, the individual will lead a life which they are not happy about. It can be something which they have to put up a front in order to please others around them.
Teens need to discover more about themselves and their emotions early on. It is important that they find a community or a group which helps them to identify with others who are in the same sort of situation. A school psychologist can tell you so much, but it is hugely helpful when you talk to someone else who has been through this before.
The individual who feels that they are overwhelmed with these feelings needs to act upon them. They may feel that they should act against them. It happens a lot during the teenage years. They will feel guilty and ashamed. They feel as if they can't tell anyone. It is important for them to receive support at this young age.
Even when there is some judgement in the school environment, coming home, will ensure that the child is loved and reassured. There will still be those friends that the individual will connect with. It is important that parents encourage the child to build relationships with these teenagers. They should also encourage them to have interests, hobbies or take part in sport and other events at school.
Often, when someone finds that they are LGBT, they are almost relieved. They may be overwhelmed with feelings which they are unable to control. However, it is a lot better now because they come to the point where they know what the issue is. When they talk to someone else, they are also relieved to find that they understand them.
A person may feel that they are alone, especially when they haven't told anyone or very few people. In the beginning, the rest of their contemporaries will be in normal relationships. Not only does the family need to support and accept the individual, but the youngster also needs to do so. This is going to make a huge difference.
