The Basic Information About Waverly Mansion

By Patrick Perry

Large houses for dwelling are referred to as mansions. Old French borrowed the name from Latin and English borrowed it from Old French. Dwelling in which priests lived and were able to sustain in medieval Europe were often called mansions. Modern varieties have evolved a lot and one person is incapable of sustaining them. Waverly mansion residences represent good instances of mansions. The location is filled a lot of upper class people who lead a life of conspicuous consumption luxury.

Initially, mansions were fortified buildings in the Roman Empire. Fortification was as a result of unstable living conditions and some sort of culture at the time. However, as social conditions gradually changed and became stable, fortifications reduced and became more comfortable. This led the way for the development of modern mansions.

Living in fortified castles started to change gradually as people made advances in politics and contemporary weaponry. Defenses were excluded from modern mansions. Old styles that incorporated defenses got demolished for contemporary defenseless designs to be constructed. Nobles often owned multiple country houses they visited during social and sporting circuits.

When the nineteenth century started, many self-made men continued the culture of building mansions. The designs borrowed architectural work from Tudoresque and Renaissance styles and they were relatively smaller in size. A good example of 19th century mansions is found in Rhode Island and is called The Breakers. Demolition has been done to many of the historic and medieval mansions in the US.

For example, the Fifth Avenue in the City of New York was once lined with mansions. These mansions were constructed by some of the finest architects of that time and featured European gothic styles. However, all of them have been demolished so that new ones can be built. This is different from what happened in Rome, Paris, and London where most of those old structures are still standing up to this day.

Mansions that exist in most places today are from the 20th and 21st century. They are designed with rooms for leisure activities. Conservatories, home theaters, and infinity pools are very common features. Smaller varieties have lower number of rooms for leisure while larger varieties have many rooms dedicated to leisure. There is a change in the level of significance attached to rooms as time goes by.

There was inclusion of rooms for private libraries and studies in mansions constructed at the beginning of the twentieth century. Although dominant in that century, this trend changed as the 21st century set it. Twenty-first century mansions have rooms for home theaters and cinemas. Additionally, the trend towards home automation is upwards as inclusion of bowling alleys and server rooms become more common.

The qualification of a dwelling to be called a mansion varies from place to place. In most cities, all houses that cover an area of 6, 000 square foot are called mansions. The name is often reserved to a level of consumption that is greater than what is normal in a location. It often correlates with housing patterns for people in the upper social class.
